Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Explain terminology and concepts associated with the biology of plants, animals, and microorganisms with emphasis on their evolutionary connections.
- Demonstrate competence in basic laboratory skills including lab safety, following protocols, and using lab instrumentation.
- Demonstrate the process of scientific inquiry by formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, recording data, analyzing data, making valid conclusions, writing laboratory reports, and presenting experimental findings.
- Recognize the impact of biological research and its applications on society both historically and currently.
- Integrate biological, chemical, physical and mathematical concepts.
Prerequisites
A passing score on the College’s mathematics placement test for both Algebra I and Algebra II or and is required for all biology majors. In addition, a high school laboratory biology course with a minimum grade of “C” or and a high school laboratory chemistry or with a minimum grade of “C” are also required.
