Biology – Science Transfer
A zoologist observing herds of buffalo on the Serengeti as they migrate every season. A botanist altering soil pH to increase plant growth. A microbiologist determining the organisms present in tap water. A molecular biologist altering the structure of a protein to help cure disease. 鈥� They are all biologists.
The Biology Associate Transfer Degree is a great place to start your career journey in a variety of scientific fields.
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Explain terminology and concepts associated with the biology of plants, animals, and microorganisms with emphasis on their evolutionary connections.
- Demonstrate competence in basic laboratory skills including lab safety, following protocols, and using lab instrumentation.
- Demonstrate the process of scientific inquiry by formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, recording data, analyzing data, making valid conclusions, writing laboratory reports, and presenting experimental findings.
- Recognize the impact of biological research and its applications on society both historically and currently.
- Integrate biological, chemical, physical and mathematical concepts.
Prerequisites
A passing score on the College鈥檚 mathematics placement test for both Algebra I and Algebra II or and is required for all biology majors. In addition, a high school laboratory biology course with a minimum grade of 鈥淐鈥� or and a high school laboratory chemistry or with a minimum grade of 鈥淐鈥� are also required.
